Founded in 1992, the Institute of Health & Welfare Policy is the first graduate program in Taiwan dedicated to interdisciplinary research on health and welfare policies. It aims to cultivate the areas in health policy, health insurance and welfare policies. Particularly after the implement and reform of the National Health Insurance scheme, both the government and private sectors need professionals to effectively integrate health and welfare policies into the needs of the society. Thus, the program provides interdisciplinarycurricula on health and welfare to cultivate talent that the country desperately needs. In 2006 the Institute of Health & Welfare Policy introduced its first Doctoral program for admissions.
